Windows Are The Eyes of Your Home

The saying that ‘Eyes are the windows to a person’s soul’ can be modified slightly to describe the windows of your house as – “Windows are the eyes of your home’! This then means that through the windows you can look at the outside world from the inside of your home.

It would not be am exaggeration to say that windows reflect the ‘personality’ of your home.

Other than being the source of natural light into your home, the windows can also be its style statement. Any decision you take to change the windows of your home implies the resultant, complete change in the look and feel of your home. But, any replacement in the windows should be a practical one to enhance the beauty as well as value of your home. The final look of the house should not appear to be clashing with respect to, say, the paintwork and decorative replacement window.

Categorizing replacement windows

Replacement windows can be categorized into different shapes and sizes, depending on the individual needs of different houses, namely:

a) Casements: With just one or two panes of glass, casements are windows hinged along one side and, to a certain degree, open. This opening is just about enough to let the much-needed fresh breeze in into your home.

b) Sliders: Sliders are windows with generally two sashes, one sliding behind the other.

c) Double hung windows: These are the category of windows that allow a lot of ventilation - with two sashes moving vertically.

d) Bay windows: ‘More space and a lot of light’ requirement is met with bay windows. Their three sides give a completely changed look to your room, commonly the living room.

e) Bow windows: Quite similar to bay windows, in coming past the wall, bow windows have sashes in each set. This gives a curved rather than bay window’s three-sided look.

f) Garden windows: As the name suggests, these windows allow a peep into the garden, and are common in kitchens. Extending beyond the walls of the house, garden windows are an ideal place for arranging potted plants.

f) Skylights: Installed into the roof of your house, skylights let in light into the room. They are ‘weather tight’ windows that don’t open.

Replacement windows are interesting options, when it comes to changing the look, comfort and value of your home. Consider your requirement before installing a particular window. To strike a good bargain, approach the dealers, rather than merely relying on the door-to-door salesmen.
